Thara is a ceramic artist and painter from Iran currently based in Tāmaki Makaurau, Aotearoa, New Zealand. She blends traditional Iranian art with contemporary approaches. Thara is a researcher (Biomedical Engineering, University of Auckland) and, in a way, an experimentalist. She is passionate about exploring new perspectives, creating new objects and images, and experimenting with materials. Thara’s creative practice spans painting, ceramics and sculptural objects, often combining these different modes of working. Her works are a response to her heritage, environment and newness.

“We often leave things behind as we move forward with our lives. In between, we leave parts of ourselves, and they mark our body and mind with a scar; it is an unavoidable part of life. These are attempts to depict the sense of past and future and the feeling of not belonging to either.”
